Paul Klipsch (98) Inventor and founder of Klipsch Audio Technologies and a pioneer in audio technology. Died in Hope, Arkansas on May 5, 2002

Boyce McDaniel (84) A physicist and member of the Manhattan Project team that developed the atomic bomb used in WW2. Died of a heart attack in Ithaca, New York on May 8, 2002

James P. McFarland (90) Former General Mills CEO responsible for diversifying GM’s products beyond grain and cereal. Died in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 10, 2002

Kevyn Aucoin (40) Heralded makeup artist of models and actresses. Died from a Metabolic Disorder (pituitary brain tumor) at Westchester, New York on May 7, 2002

Otis Blackwell (70) Legendary songwriter of "Don't Be Cruel", "Handy Man", "All Shook Up" and "Return to Sender" died of a heart attack at Nashville, Tennessee on May 6, 2002.

Yves Robert (81) French director best known for "The Tall Blond Man With One Black Shoe". Died from cerebral hemorrhage in Paris, France on May 10, 2002

George Sidney (85) "Mr. MGM Musical" who directed movies such as "Bye Bye Birdie", "Show Boat", "Anchors Aweigh" and "Annie Get Your Gun". Died from lymphoma in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 5, 2002

Michael Todd Jr. (72) Son of famous producer who himself was most famous for producing the "Smell-o-Vision" movie "Scent of Mystery". Died of lung cancer at Borris, County Carlow, Ireland on May 5, 2002

Hugo Banzer (75) Both former dictator and later elected president of Bolivia. Died of a heart attack from brain & lung cancer in Santa Cruz, Bolivia on May 5, 2002

Linda Lyon Block (54) Political extremist convicted of killing a policeman in 1993, she became the first woman executed in Alabama in 45 years. Died from Electrocution (electric chair) at Holman prison on May 10,2002

Pim Fortuyn (54) Colorful openly gay, Dutch political figure gunned down ten days prior to elections (word is that both he and his party will be big winners anyway). Died from Gun Shot Wounds received in the central Dutch city of Hilversum, Holland on May 5, 2002


Sports

Dan Devine (77) former college and NFL coach and athletic director at the University of Missouri who won a national championship as a coach at Notre Dame in 1977. Devine died of complications from heart surgery in Tempe, Arizona on May 5, 2002.

Seattle Slew (28) One of the greatest racing horses ever who won the Triple Crown in 1978. Died at Hill~n~Dale Farm near Lexington, Kentucky on May 7, 2002

Curtis Williams (24) University of Washington football player who was paralyzed in a game in October 2000. Died in his sleep at Fresno, California on May 6, 2002.
