Henri Alekan, French cinematographer

Henri Alekan (92) Oscar-nominated French cinematographer. Alekan was nominated for an Oscar for his work on Roman Holiday (1953). Among his nearly 100 credits are Austerlitz (1960), Topkapi (1964), Mayerling (1968), and Charles Bronson’s Red Sun (1972). He died of leukemia in Bourgogne, France on June 15, 2001.


Politics and Military

Leila Pahlavi (31) Iranian princess, the youngest daughter of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran, who was 9-years-old when her family was forced into exile as a result of the Iranian Revolution led by the Ayatollah Khomeini. Leila Pahlavi was found dead in her hotel room of an apparent drug overdose in London, England on June 10, 2001.

Timothy McVeigh (33) Oklahoma man convicted of eleven federal offenses and for his role in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing that killed 168 people and severely wounded more than 800 others, considered as the deadliest incident of domestic terrorism in US history. McVeigh was executed by lethal injection in MacAlestar, Oklahoma on June 11, 2001.
