9/11 Tribute
|
The rolling Memory is a creation of Amy & John Holmgren of Shafer, Minnesota. The trucks design has the name of every person lost in the towers, the pentagon, american airline Flight 11 and United flight 175, plus graphics of the towers and a New York policeman holding a child. Vickie
1980-2004 |
Several years ago I met a lovely young woman (little
girl to all appearances) at a thrift store I frequent. She was so tiny and
frail I was astonished when she told me she was expecting a baby. She had
been raised in foster homes and basically on the street (her mother was in
prison, dad unknown..or unknown to her)She was so full of questions about
her pregnancy and motherhood I eventually had a friend of mine who runs a
local place called the Parent Child Center get to know her and let her come
to the classes etc. This center usually works with parents who have already
fouled up...so Vickie was a new concept, but everyone loved her. She worked
right up to the day her water literally broke...at the thrift..and another
employee and I went with her to the hospital where she delivered a fine little
boy. This was August of 2002. In the ensuing two and three quarters years
she found good child care for her boy and went back to work...this time..G-d
help us at one of those nasty check cashing places frequented by losers,
criminals and addicts. But it paid better than the thrift and although she
was tiny, she was tough and figured she could handle it. Well, last Saturday
at noon...NOON...some fiend got in and murdered her at work...in broad daylight.
She was stabbed forty times and money was stolen...but somehow this fiend
escaped and is still at large. So, a fine young woman and beyond dutiful
and loving mother was ripped from our community and her son's life.....forever.
I am on my way now to her funeral. She had no family...but she has many friends
and former co-workers. She is a loss to all...and a loss that I just want
to make certain does not go unnoticed by the good folks here. RIP Vickie
(1980-2004). We will all miss you and at least I know heaven welcomed such
a good young woman with open arms. Tribute from Peggy |

Marion Harris 93 years |
Marion (Ma' Marion) Harris (93) took her
journey home on April 26, 2004. Ma' Marion lived in Rome, GA and was highly
respected and loved by everyone who came in contact with her. Ma' Marion
had only one child (Bessie, who passed in 1973). However, Bessie had 8 children,
who Ma' Marion unselfishly cared for. From these 8 children, Ma' Marion was
blessed with 21 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren, who
miss her terribly. She was not only Mama to all her children, but to the
children and adults in the neighborhood, who would always, at one time or
the other, come to her house when they needed a sincere ear to bend. A void
is now in Rome. There will never be another like her. Mama, you were my rock, the love of my life, the only one who has loved me unconditionally. There will never be anyone else like you. You touched so many lives -- and our hearts ache from missing you already! Take your rest, Baby, no one will hurt you now. Love, Trish |
54 Years |
My dear and longtime friend, who always came to my parties
and fed my cats whenever we went on vacation, who babysat for my son and
even took him up to the mall to see Hanson perform once, who always seemed
to give more love to others than she got back, and who deserved so much more
out of life than she received, died August 26 in Kansas City from complications
after surgery for a broken ankle. She was 54 years old. |
