Earle Brown - Composer and music theorist who was a significant influence on a whole generation of European as well as American composers died at age 75.
Ray Brown - Reknowned jazz bassist who played with legends like Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and wife Ella Fitzgerald died suddenly at age 75.
Rosemary Clooney - Legendary singer whose career spanned 6 decades and whose #1 hits included "Come On-a My House", "Hey There", "This Ole House" and "Half As Much" died of lung cancer at age 74.
Harold "Duke" Dejan - Leader of New Orlean’s Olympia Brass Band, a fixture for years at parades and jazz funerals died after a series of strokes at age 93.
Henry Del Toro - Virginia disc jockey and "shock jock" known for his outrageous stunts and frequent job changes died of natural causes due to drug abuse at age 44.
Hurricane Bob Dudek - Bass player and drummer for the 60's rock group the Wildweeds died June 2 at age 57.
John Frankenheimer - Director of the classic films "Birdman of Alcatraz" and "The Manchurian Candidate" and who won 4 Emmys for his TV work died after spinal surgery at age 72.
J. Warren Hutton - Organist considered to be one of the best organ players and teachers in the country died suddenly at age 72.
Katy Jurado - Mexican actress (the only Mexican born actor ever nominated for an Oscar!) best remembered in the U.S. as Gary Cooper’s former mistress in "High Noon" as well a tumultuous marriage with Ernest Borgnine died of heart and lung ailments at age 78.
Francois Perier - French actor who appeared in 108 films and was a close friend of Jean-Paul Sartre died of a heart attack at age 82.
Tony Turner - General manager and anchor at WYMT in Hazard, Kentucky was killed in a car accident at age 40.
Dermot Walsh - Irish actor best known in the U.S. for playing the title role in the 60's series 'Richard the Lionhearted' died at age 77.

Sports
Doug Elmore - Quarterback at Ole Miss during their most successful years carrying the Rebels to 29-3-1 record during his tenure died of cancer at age 63.
Earl Francis - A rookie pitcher for the 1960 championship Pittsburgh Pirates died of diabetes complications at 66.
Pete Gray - The one-armed outfielder who played one season for the St. Louis Browns in 1945 who amazingly carried a .218 batting average died at age 87.
Kazuo "Pancho" Ito - Flamboyant Japanese baseball announcer and goodwill ambassador to U.S. Major League Baseball died at age 68.
Irv Kaze - A Los Angeles radio and TV sports broadcaster who worked in publicity for years with teams like the Yankees, L.A. Raiders and San Diego Chargers died of a heart attack at age 75.
Tony Razzano - A former scout for the San Francisco 49ers who recommended the drafting of Joe Montana and helped build teams that won four Superbowls died at age 77.
Ted Williams - Baseball player considered by many to be the best hitter ever with a .344 lifetime average and 521 career homeruns and who was the last player to hit over .400 died of congestive heart failure at age 83.

Art and Literature
William Dufty - Nutritionist, author and last husband of actress Gloria Swanson who wrote a biography of Billie Holiday and the classic nutrition book "Sugar Blues" espoused by Swanson, John Lennon and Dirk Benedict that claimed sugar causes many diseases (including cancer) died of cancer at age 86.
Ira Eaker - Co-founder of Back Stage magazine a leading trade journal for working performers during the 60's thru 80's died of cancer at age 80.
Karla Eckert - German fashion writer who reigned over fashions for 3 decades and who once wrote pro-Nazi material for Hitler and then became part of a covert resistance against the Nazis died at age 93.
Angelo Frontoni - Italian photographer known for his photos of beautiful movie stars (often nude) died of a heart attack at age 76.
Mark McGarrity - Author and columnist who wrote mystery novels under the pen name Bartholomew Gill ("The Death of An Irish Lover" and others) died after a fall in his home at age 58.
Clifford Possum - Australian aboriginal painter who was the first aboriginal artist to gain international recognition died at age 70.
Meyer Reinhold - Author, scholar and teacher of the classics who wrote 23 books on the subject died at age 92.

Politics and Social
Philip Bergen - Guard at Alcatraz during the May 2, 1946 uprising whose heroics helped end the 3-day battle died of natural causes at 97.
Henry J. Cianfrani - Pennsylvania state senator who spent 3 years in prison for racketeering and mail fraud charges but but won his old ward seat back in 1988 and was re-elected just 3 weeks ago died after a stroke at age 79.
Gen. Benjamin O. Davis - The first black Air Force general who led the fabled Tuskegee Airmen during World War II died of Alzheimer’s at age 89.
Dr. Martin Deutsch - Educator and pioneer in studies in educating disadvantage children, including pre-school exposure to art and music, that eventually led to the Head Start program nationwide died of renal failure at age 76.
Melissa Laurel Garrison - Woman who gained notariety for murdering her mother in Jackson, Mississippi at age 16 died of natural causes at age 25.
Ronnie Holton - The Miami mother who accepted a ride home from a pediatric clinic with a woman who shot her in the head and took her baby died of those injuries at age 21.
Adm. Robert L.J. Long - Commander in chief of U.S. forces in the Pacific during the Iranian hostage crisis died at age 82.
Sagon Penn - Man acquitted of killing a police officer and wounding another during a scuffle in a racially charged incident in San Diego in 1985 died of a suicide at age 40.
Abdul Qadir - Afganistan’s Vice President under President Hamid Karzai whose governmental goal was protecting the interests of the Pushtang clan was assassinated in Kabul. Age unknown at this time.
Stanley Rader - Treasurer of the World Wide Church of God who was plagued by charges of corruption for years and who once sued George Lucas and Steven Speilberg for "stealing" the idea for "Raiders of the Lost Ark" died of pancreatic cancer at age 71.
Elliot Wilk - Manhattan judge who presided over the Woody Allen/Mia Farrow custody case and for whom Mia Farrow named an adopted child Gabriel Wilk Farrow died of brain cancer at age 60.
Wallace G. Wilkinson - Self-made millionaire and former Kentucky governor known for overhauling the state’s schools but who faced several scandals (yet another one!!) during and after office died of lymphatic cancer at age 60.
Francisco Candido Xavier - Brazilian spiritualist who channeled the spirits of the dead into over 400 books (he never took royalties since he said he wasn't the author) died at age 92.

Business and Science
Dr. Erwin Chargaff - The "Father of Molecular Biology" who is credited with discovering the chemical composition of DNA in 1935 died at age 96.
Jane Bancroft Cook - One of the original heirs of the Dow Jones Company who served on it's Board of Directors for 36 years died at age 90.
Dr. Henry Haskin - Marine biologist and oyster expert who discovered the parasite that nearly destroyed the oyster population in Delaware Bay died at age 87.
Dr. Pearson Hunt - Harvard business professor known as "Fearsome Pearson" who helped shape modern corporate finance and management practices through his ideas on "decentralization" died of a heart attack at age 93.
James S. Kemper Jr. - Former head of Kemper Insurance Cos founded by his father in 1912 who guided the company into the financial services business died at age 88.
Raymond Lubow - Pioneer in sound modification inventions including the Morley pedal which is used to create echos and delayed sounds while playing electric guitar or keyboards died of prostrate cancer at age 82.
Arthur "Spud" Melin - Co-founder of Wham-O toy company which developed the Hula Hoop and Frisbee died of Alzheimer's at age 77 (making the third toy company founder to die in a month!).
Walter Mertz - A government nutrition researcher who was one of the first to report that chromium is essential as a trace element needed to make insulin work effectively died of cancer at age 79.
Dr. Frederic E. Mohs - Researcher who as a student in the 1930's developed "Mohs surgery" a technique for removing skin cancer died at the age of 93.
Suliman S. Olayan - One of the richest people in the world (last years rank – 38th , just ahead of Rupert Murdock) and founder of the Olayan Group, which owned pretty much everything, died at age 83.
Dr. Alice Stewart - British epidemiologist who first linked X-rays of pregnant women to disease in their children died at age 95.
Noel Young - Founder of Capra Press known for publishing books by avant-garde authors died May 31 of Alzheimer's at age 79.
